Music
Music
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. At Turnditch we aim to provide a high-quality music education that engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music.
Our Music curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and we ensure progression throughout the school by following the Sparkyard Primary Music scheme. This ensures that children’s knowledge is built on prior learning and that there is full music coverage across all year groups.
The National Curriculum for Music aims to ensure that all pupils:
• Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
• Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
• Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
Intent
Our music curriculum aims to nurture a love of music through mastering a range of learning opportunities that will enable the children to develop their independence and become active learners through the exploration of beat, pitch, composition and performance.
Implementatoin
Teachers have access to planning via Sparkyard. All teachers have access to their own account in which they can find lesson plans, create their own lessons. Evidence should be shown through an initial video of the children during their first lesson of the topic, and a video of their final lesson of the topic.
Impact
Our music curriculum is high quality, well thought out and demonstrates progression. Formative assessments take place regularly throughout units, showing any areas which need further development.
Wider Opportunities
We offer opportunities for all of our children to develop their skills and talents as musicians through regular lessons with the Derbyshire Music Partnership. With the Partnership and their teachers, children are able to explore their musical talents by learning to play a range of instruments. These lessons increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
DERBY & DERBYSHIRE MUSIC PARTNERSHIP | Derbyshire Services for Schools
We also have a school choir and work alongside Derby Cathedral's Music in School Programme to offer a number of enrichment opportunities. We encourage all children to join the choir. The choir meets on a weekly basis and, although its primary aim is to enable children to enjoy singing together, it also performs in public.
One to One Music Sessions
Music lessons are also available within school time with our Music Specialists.
Children can choose to learn;
