Learning
The curriculum at Turnditch CE Primary School offers a broad and balanced range of subjects and topics to encourage our children to become enthusiastic, life-long learners who have a desire to succeed in all they do. Children have the opportunity to work collaboratively in pairs or groups as well as independently, becoming more confident in what they do and more curious about the world.
Every age group within the school covers the full range of subjects from the National and Early Years Curriculums, plus Religious Education. (For more information on the National Curriculum click HERE).
The curriculum is enhanced with visits to places such as, The National Holocaust Museum, Rolls Royce Design Challenge, Whitehall Outdoor Centre and White Post Farm. Visitors are also invited into school to talk to the children and the children are encouraged to ask questions.
Underpinning all areas of work are Christian and British values which celebrate diversity, respect for one another and above all honesty.
Subjects are, where possible, taught in a cross-curricular way through topics based upon the learning projects from Cornerstones Curriculum. We have adapted this to offer a progressive and broad curriculum for all children, ensuring there is clear progression in skills and knowledge as the children move through the school. We are constantly ensuring that pupils are ready for the next step in their learning journey whilst developing an ability to retrieve knowledge and skills from their prior learning and school experiences.

Religious Education
Religious Education is taught in accordance with the Derbyshire and Derby City Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2020–2025 (ClickHERE to download). It is mainly based on the Christian faith but includes an understanding of other religions, helping give our pupils a wider knowledge and understanding of modern Britain.
Phonics and Early Reading
At Turnditch CE Primary School, phonics is taught through a Systematic Synthetic approach driven by 'Little Wandle' and supported by Big Cat Phonics books. For further information on our rationale and approach to reading, please see our Reading page, found HERE.
